Speeding – Waterbeach Barracks – Mobile Warden Scheme – Home Energy Check – Blue Plaque Scheme – Zero Carbon Communities Grant
Be vigilant about locking windows and doors now the long evenings are here.
Speeding – The manhole was replaced on the bend at The Church on 1 July 2019.
Waterbeach Barracks – Waterbeach Community Forum – The next Forum is on 9 October 2019.
Mobile Warden Scheme – The uptake of the service is high with currently only one available space. Diane Robertshaw now has fourteen people she visits in Waterbeach (ten houses), one in Chittering and three in Landbeach. It is still important that people who could potentially benefit from this service put themselves forward as if a waiting list builds up there could be justification for the expansion of the scheme in this area. Age UK currently charge £7 a week for both single people and couples. There is financial support available for those who can’t afford the weekly charge (means tested) and the scheme is subsidised. Potential clients are also entitled to a free two week trial period before deciding whether to take up the service on a temporary or permanent basis.
If anyone is interested in hearing more about joining this scheme, please contact Warden (07977219403) for further information. This will be in total confidence.
Home Energy Check – This service is available free of charge to anyone over the age of 65. Summer is actually a good time to book this in so there is enough time to carry out any work, such as cavity wall or loft insulation, before the cold weather sets in. Home support is available for some pensioners through Age UK to help pay for any work required.
If individuals don’t meet the means tested criteria for Home Support to help finance any necessary work to their home for energy efficiency savings, South Cambs also have funds available through the Disabled Facilities Grant scheme which now has more flexible criteria.
Blue Plaque Scheme – SCDC have just launched this scheme, which has been running in Cambridge since 2001. The first plaque was unveiled on 30th June at Girton College to honour its two principal founders, Barbara Bodichon and Emily Davies, who were pioneers in providing education at degree level for women in this country.
South Cambridgeshire residents are now being encouraged to nominate a person or event for commemoration. Visit the webpage at www.scambs.gov.uk/blueplaques for further details and the nomination criteria.
Zero Carbon Communities Grant – We are still awaiting the start date of a project officer for this scheme, but the appointment is in process. When the scheme is open for applications parish clerks will be notified. The scheme will also be open to local voluntary groups. Bids for green schemes that help to reduce carbon emissions and our reliance on fossil fuels will be invited for anything from a refill water fountain and bicycle racks to community tree planting, battery storage panels on a community building or electric vehicle charging points to name a few. Grants will range from £1000 - £15 000.
